About Hangonsilta
What are the main landmarks in Hangonsilta?
Rail defines the quarter. Hangonsilta carries no monument of its own and orients itself by the track corridor and by the centre of Hyvinge to the south, where the Suomen Rautatiemuseo records the very lines this part of town grew beside. The railway is the marker.
Reaching north across the flat ground of Uusimaa toward the district of Mustamännistö, Hangonsilta stands as a track-side residential corner of this railway town in southern Finland rather than a place of set-piece sights.
What is the history of Hangonsilta?
Track came before the streets. Hyvinkää rose as a junction where the lines crossed, and the northern ground beside the rails stayed open until later building reached out to fill it, so that this quarter took its name and its shape from the railway it sits against. Growth came late here.
As Hyvinge stretched north from the corridor that the Suomen Rautatiemuseo now keeps in memory, homes spread across the flat Uusimaa ground toward Mustamännistö, and Hangonsilta settled in as one of the newer track-side edges of this part of southern Finland.
Where is Hangonsilta?
Hangonsilta occupies the northern part of Hyvinge. Its streets gather near the rail corridor of Uusimaa where the lines fan out from the town, and the ground keeps the flat, track-side character of a quarter grown up beside the railway. Trains pass close by.
South of here the district gives way to the core of Hyvinkää and the neighbouring quarter of Martti, while Sveitsi lies off to the west on the wooded edge of this railway town in southern Finland.
