Viertola, Hyvinge — Area Guide & Where to Stay

The quarter holds a residential scale. It carries no monument of its own, taking its bearings instead from the forested ridges around it and from the centre of Hyvinkää to the north-west, where the Finnish Railway Museum and the town's institutions gather. The ridges and rails set the tone.

Spread across the south-eastern ground of Uusimaa beside the district of Kalteva, Viertola reads as a quiet residential corner of this railway town in southern Finland.

The ridges were forest first. The wooded ground in the south-east of the railway town stood as pine country before Hyvinkää spread outward, and through the twentieth century the streets filled with homes until this quarter took shape toward the southern edge of the centre. Building followed the rails outward.

As the railway town of Uusimaa grew from its lines, houses spread across the ridges beside Kalteva, and Viertola settled in as one of the residential corners of this part of southern Finland.

Viertola sits in the south-eastern reach of Hyvinkää, set on the forested ridges of Uusimaa that run out beyond the railway town's centre toward the southern edge. The land keeps its low rolling form. From here the district neighbours the southern quarter of Kalteva and gives onto the pine country and the rail line that thread south from the town, a settled residential corner of this part of southern Finland.
