Sveitsi, Hyvinge — Area Guide & Where to Stay

The forest is the draw here. Sveitsi keeps no monument of its own, taking its bearings instead from the wooded ridges of Uusimaa around it and from the centre of Hyvinge to the south-east, where the Suomen Rautatiemuseo and the town's institutions gather. Green ground marks the place.

Beside the district of Mustamännistö on the north-western fringe of this railway town, Sveitsi reads as a recreation and residential corner well clear of the busier core in southern Finland.

The ground was forest first. Wooded north-western slopes of Hyvinkää stood as recreation country before the streets came, and through the twentieth century homes spread up the ridges until this quarter took its shape on the edge of the railway town. Woods kept their hold.

As Hyvinge grew outward from the lines that the Suomen Rautatiemuseo now records, building reached the green ground beside Mustamännistö, and Sveitsi settled in as one of the leafy residential edges of this part of southern Finland.

Sveitsi lies on the north-western side of Hyvinge. It spreads across the wooded ground of Uusimaa beyond the railway town's centre, where the land lifts into low ridges and the forest closes in around the streets. From here the quarter runs back toward the core of Hyvinkää and the neighbouring district of Martti, a leafy residential corner on the north-western edge of the town in southern Finland.
