The date is on record: 1776. Questel Fort is a redoubt of the Vauban type, a closed square whose main entry point was placed on the least exposed side, and it belongs to the same ring of Brest fortifications as Fort Montbarey. Fort Keranroux and Fort Penfeld stand to either side of the quadrangle.
