About Calais-Nord

What are the main landmarks in Calais-Nord?

Stone and sculpture, mostly. The Tour du Guet, the Citadelle de Calais and Fort Risban cover the defensive record, while the Town hall of Calais, the Louis XVIII column and The Burghers of Calais carry the civic one. Museums run to three: the Calais lace museum, the Musée des beaux-arts de Calais and the musée de la Guerre de Calais.

Churches are more numerous, from the Église Notre-Dame de Calais and its cistern to the Église Saint-Pierre de Calais and the Église du Sacré-Cœur de Calais. The Calais Lighthouse and the Monument des sauveteurs finish the water-facing group.

What is the history of Calais-Nord?

A canton once carried this name. Calais-Nord-Ouest was a canton of the Pas-de-Calais, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, and the French canton reorganisation that took effect in March 2015 disbanded it, sending its 9 communes into the canton of Calais-1. The église Saint-Martin de Sangatte, the Église Saint-Maxime d'Escalles, the Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité de Peuplingues, the église Saint-Pierre de Bonningues-lès-Calais and the Moulin à vent de Coquelles still carry those commune names.

Where is Calais-Nord?

Calais-Nord belongs to the Pas-de-Calais, in northern France, with the Calais Lighthouse and Fort Risban among the addresses along its edge.
