About Cinq Avenues

What are the main landmarks in Cinq Avenues?

The caserne de Saint-Pierre is the odd one out. Around it the list is split between churches and schools: the Église Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the Église des Chartreux and the Église de la Mission de France on one side, the collèges Darius Milhaud, Louis Armand and Malrieu on the other, each with its own sports ground. Museums appear on the same list, among them the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Marseille and the Musée Grobet-Labadié.

Swimming happens at the piscine Louis Armand.

What is the history of Cinq Avenues?

Les Cinq-Avenues enters Marseille's record without a start date. The names divide neatly, with the Église Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and the Église de la Mission de France carrying the parish record, and the caserne de Saint-Pierre, the collège grounds and the cercle Saint-Michel accounting for most of the rest. Nothing dates the streets.

What the quartier keeps instead is the Maison Gaston Castel and a share of the museums that its neighbours also claim.

Where is Cinq Avenues?

Cinq Avenues occupies a stretch of Marseille with La Blancarde two-thirds of a kilometre off and Chutes-Lavie, Le Camas and Les Chartreux barely further.
