Fort Saint Louis and the beaches set the choice. Le Mourillon puts a run of sheltered sandy bays, a small fishing port and the Musée des arts asiatiques de Toulon within one quarter, which makes it the seaward alternative to sleeping in the middle of Toulon. Naval families use it.
Stade Mayol and the wider run of city errands pull the other way, so a stay out here trades the centre for the shore.

What are the main landmarks in Le Mourillon?
Fort Saint Louis is the anchor. The 16th-century work, rebuilt by Vauban, stands beside the small fishing port, and the Musée des arts asiatiques de Toulon occupies a house on the waterfront close by. The bays are municipal work.
Toulon laid out the Plages du Mourillon as a line of sheltered sand, and the quarter also carries Stade Mayol, the Église Saint-François-de-Paule de Toulon and the église Saint-Flavien de Toulon.
What is the history of Le Mourillon?
Fishing boats worked here before the navy did. Le Mourillon grew from a village on the water into quarters for officers of the French fleet, and part of the naval dockyard of Toulon was set down on the same ground. Vauban rebuilt the fort.
Fort Saint Louis is a 16th-century fort, and in the 1970s the city added the Plages du Mourillon, a run of sheltered sandy bays laid along the shore.
Where is Le Mourillon?
East of Toulon, Le Mourillon meets the water near the entrance to the Rade, with the Plages du Mourillon and the port de plaisance Saint-Louis du Mourillon along its shore.
