Twerton, Bath — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Twerton is a suburb west of Bath in Bath and North East Somerset, and the football club Bath City plays its matches within the district.
About Twerton

Where to stay in Twerton
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The ground of Bath City sets the rhythm here. Match days aside, Twerton is residential ground on the western edge of the city, with Oldfield Park Baptist Church and rows of named villas rather than hotels along its streets. Bath centre keeps the hotel stock.
Anyone choosing this side over the centre trades the walk in for streets that stay quiet, from the Church of St Michael and All Angels down to Lansdown Cricket Club Ground.
About Twerton
What are the main landmarks in Twerton?
Bath City play here. The Church of St Michael and All Angels heads a long parish list that also takes in Emmanuel Church, St John the Evangelist and the Church of the Ascension, with Oldfield Park Baptist Church and its attached Sunday school on the same roll. Lansdown Cricket Club Ground lies close.
Named houses fill the rest, among them Avon House, Newbridge House, Nelson House, Clyde House, Penn Hill House, Henley Lodge, Apthorpe and the Governor's House, alongside Kelso Villa, once the superintendent's house of the Bath Gas Works.
What is the history of Twerton?
Roman work came first. The Newton St Loe Roman villa is the earliest thing recorded near the suburb, and the parish church of St Michael and All Angels marks the next long stretch, its churchyard holding monuments set just south of the south aisle. More churches followed.
Later industry left its own trace, since Kelso Villa went up as the superintendent's house of the Bath Gas Works, while the Bromley Memorial stands in St Michael's Cemetery among the graves of a district that grew west of Bath.
Where is Twerton?
The suburb spreads across the western side of Bath, inside the Bath and North East Somerset district and the ceremonial county of Somerset, England.
