What is the history of Netteswell?
The parish came before the town. Netteswell stayed rural into the middle of the twentieth century, a scatter of small settlements with Netteswell Cross in the north and Tye Green in the south, and its parish church of St Andrew standing beside the manor house of Netteswellbury at the centre. Harlow changed that in 1947.
Designation of the new town took in the parish, the civil parish itself was abolished in 1955, and Netteswell now names a ward smaller than the ground it once covered.
