The estate is a nineteen-thirties creation. Council housing went up on both sides of Scott Hall Road, running from Buslingthorpe Lane at the southern end to Potternewton Lane at the northern, and that layout still governs the streets. Administration followed the map.

The ground falls within the Chapel Allerton and Moortown wards of Leeds City Council, with Chapeltown and Meanwood adjoining on either hand.
