Where to stay in Old Woking
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Old Woking is a village of semi-detached houses and gardens rather than a place with room stock, so a bed near it means the modern town centre back up the A247. The road is the way in and out. Woking Palace and its fishponds are the reason to come down this way, and St Peter's Church stands at the older end of the village beside the Old Woking War Memorial.
Kingfield lies just west.

About Old Woking
What are the main landmarks in Old Woking?
Woking Palace is the headline: a moated site with fishponds and ruins at Oldhall Copse, standing in the settlement the whole town grew out of. St Peter's Church holds the parish. The Old Manor House, The Old House Cottage and The Old House carry listings of their own, and the Old Woking War Memorial stands among them on the village street.
Two converted paper mills and parts of Woking's two largest parks fall inside the same boundary, between the Hoe Stream and the River Wey.
What is the history of Old Woking?
Woking began here. The moated site of Woking Palace, with its fishponds and the ruins at Oldhall Copse, marks the ground of the original settlement, and St Peter's Church belongs to that older layer rather than to the town that grew away from it. No motorway ever came.
The A247 still carries the traffic between Woking and Clandon Park, with the A3 reached from it, and the two paper mills that once stood in the village have been converted.
Where is Old Woking?
The village lies between the Hoe Stream to the north and the River Wey to the south, with Kingfield to the west and farmland running away east.
