The estate itself is the landmark, and it is the largest of its kind inside Glasgow, since Hillington falls just outside the city boundary. The M8 marks the northern edge, running along the line the Monkland Canal once took, and the A8 Edinburgh Road carries the buses past the south-western side. Everything here is working ground.

What is the history of Queenslie?

Queenslie was farmland first, built mostly over the Easter Queenslie and Wester Queenslie farms, and it belongs to the Greater Easterhouse schemes thrown up after the Second World War for families moved out of Dalmarnock, the Garngad, and Parkhead, where they had been living crowded in beside heavy industry. It was laid out in the 1950s as an industrial estate with a small housing area and a primary school. The houses did not last.

By the late 1990s the tenements had deteriorated badly enough that the council demolished them and gave the land to industry instead.

Where is Queenslie?

Queenslie sits east of Cranhill in north-east Glasgow, with Stepps Road between them. The M8 separates it from Garthamlock to the north, following the course of the old Monkland Canal, while Bartiebeith Road divides it from Wellhouse in the south-east and the A8 Edinburgh Road runs along the south-west.
