Where to stay in Ho
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
The Volta Regional Museum marks the part of Ho most visitors want to be near. Rooms cluster in the municipal centre, within reach of the museum, the cathedral and the offices of the Ho Municipal Assembly. Those streets form the practical base.
Anything further out trades the walk to the museum for open ground towards Mount Adaklu, and the two are not the same trip, with Adaklu District beginning just south of the municipal boundary. Ho works as a base rather than a stopover. The road from Accra takes three to four hours, long enough that most people who come stay the night, and the town's rooms are shaped by that pattern more than by any weekend trade.
Ridge walks explain the rest. Mount Galenukui and the wider Togo Atakora Range stand on the other side of the town from Mount Adaklu, and a stay in Ho puts both that range and the Volta Regional Museum inside one day. Ho West District spreads north and west.
Beds thin out quickly beyond the municipal centre, so anyone heading for Agotime-Ziope or the district edges is generally better booking in Ho and driving out.

The Ho Municipal Assembly governs the town and the ground around it, and the boundaries it works to run out to the Republic of Togo in the east, to Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope Districts in the south, and to Ho West District in the north and west. Borders shaped the town more than any single event on record. Ho sits close enough to the Republic of Togo that the frontier is part of daily geography, and far enough from Accra that the road journey takes three to four hours rather than an afternoon.
The census counts it as a municipality. Figures gathered in 2021 treated Ho Municipality as a single unit with both urban and rural ground inside it, which is the administrative shape the town still has. The mountains predate all of it.
Mount Adaklu and the Togo Atakora Range were the fixed points long before any assembly drew a boundary between Ho West District and the municipality, and they remain the features that place the town.
Where is Ho?
Two mountains fix the position. Ho lies between Mount Adaklu and Mount Galenukui, the second of which belongs to the Togo Atakora Range, so the town occupies the ground where the two sets of high land come near each other. The Republic of Togo is the eastern limit.
Ho West District takes over to the north and west, while Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope Districts hold the southern side of the municipal boundary.
What is the climate of Ho?
The tropics set the baseline. Ho lies in them, with Mount Adaklu on one side and the Togo Atakora Range on the other, so weather here is read from the hills as much as from the season. Rain governs the calendar.
A walk towards Mount Galenukui is a different proposition in a wet month than a dry one, and the same holds for any road out towards the Republic of Togo or back down to Accra.
How do you get to Ho?
Most arrivals come up the road from Accra. The run takes three to four hours, which puts Ho beyond a comfortable day trip from the capital and makes an overnight the normal shape of a visit. Togo lies just east of it.
Traffic also reaches the town from Ho West District and from Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope Districts, since Ho holds the offices, the Volta Regional Museum and the assembly that the surrounding districts deal with.
