Where to stay in Sopronbánfalva

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Beds sit in Sopron. Sopronbánfalva keeps the western edge of that city, a former village of houses and garden plots that also answers to Kertváros, and the rooms a traveller actually needs stay behind in the old town. The Brennbergbánya road passes through.

Choosing Bánfalva means quiet ground under the Sopron Mountains and a short run back in to Sopron.

About Sopronbánfalva

What are the main landmarks in Sopronbánfalva?

No monument carries the name. Sopronbánfalva enters the record as a former village rather than as a sight, and the heritage that Sopron is credited with, its churches, its museums, its walls, belongs to the centre east of here rather than to this edge. The Sopron Mountains rise directly behind.

What Bánfalva puts in front of a visitor is wooded slope and the road running on to Brennbergbánya.

What is the history of Sopronbánfalva?

Bánfalva was a village first. Absorption into Sopron came in 1950, and the place has carried three names in ordinary use ever since, Sopronbánfalva, Kertváros and Sopron-Kertváros, without any of them displacing the older short form. The Brennbergbánya road predates the merger. Hungary redrew an administrative boundary; the settlement strung along the foot of the Sopron Mountains stayed where it had always been.

Where is Sopronbánfalva?

West of the Sopron city centre, Sopronbánfalva takes the northeastern foot of the Sopron Mountains, with the road to Brennbergbánya running through it.
