What is Serang known for?

Serang carries the provincial administration of Banten and a run of small collections with it, among them Museum Negeri Provinsi Banten, the Banten State Museum, the Gol A Gong Literacy Museum and the Scout Bike Museum Around the World. Old Banten lies north of the city. Old Banten held the ground first. Where is Serang?

Banten Bay closes the north. Serang stands towards the north of Banten province on the island of Java, with the coast zone at its upper end facing onto the bay and the historical site of Old Banten inside that same strip. Serang Regency lies beyond the boundary.

The city sits about 75 km west of the city centre of Jakarta, and the built-up edge of Greater Jakarta comes within roughly 30 km around Tangerang, close enough that road distance rather than map distance decides the journey.

What is the climate of Serang?

Banten Bay works on the northern edge. Serang lies south of the equator and inside the tropics, so the year splits into wet and dry rather than into a warm half and a cold one, and the coast zone at the top of the city takes whatever the bay sends inland. Cold weather never arrives.

How do you get to Serang?

Tangerang is the hinge. The urban sprawl of Greater Jakarta reaches to within about 30 km of Serang there, which puts the city at the western end of the corridor running out from the capital, about 75 km from the city centre of Jakarta itself. Old Banten is closer still.
