Roman inscriptions came out of one hamlet. Religious ones were brought to light at Bignanico, which is the oldest thing recorded on this hill. A Benedictine convent stood here from at least 1180.
Dedicated to San Michele, it is attested in the record until at least the end of the 16th century, which is four hundred years of continuous existence. Two named places make up the rest. Dosso Pisani and Castel Carnasino carry their own entries in the record of the quarter.
What is the history of Monte Olimpino?
Rome left inscriptions and nothing else. Religious ones found at Bignanico are what survives of that period on the hill. Administration came from Vico.
In 1180 the territory of what is now Monte Olimpino formed part of the ground administered by the Como borgo of Vico. A convent was already standing in that year. Benedictine nuns had a house here dedicated to San Michele, and its existence is attested until at least the end of the 16th century.
Economic fortunes are the rest of the record. What the quarter has beyond the convent and the inscriptions is a run of economic changes and two named places, Dosso Pisani and Castel Carnasino.
