Where to stay in Sterrenburg

The practical side of choosing where to sleep.

Which part of Sterrenburg you are in matters more than the name. Sterrenburg I is largely flats and high-rise, while Sterrenburg II and III are low-rise family housing laid out in woonerven with unusual street patterns and a good deal of green between them. Children are everywhere in the later two.

Playing fields come with them.

About Sterrenburg

What are the main landmarks in Sterrenburg?

The street names are the district's signature. In Sterrenburg I and II they are taken from astronomers, heavenly bodies and constellations, which is what the name of the district itself plays on, while in Sterrenburg III they are named after castles and strongholds instead. The J. Polyanderschool serves the area, and several sports parks and clubs sit within it.

What is the history of Sterrenburg?

Sterrenburg went up mostly in the 1960s and 1970s and shows the housing fashions of those years plainly. Numbering follows the building order. Work on the second and third parts could not begin until Dordrecht annexed Dubbeldam, which is why the low-rise family housing of Sterrenburg II and III belongs to a later moment than the flats of the first part.

Where is Sterrenburg?

Sterrenburg, in the south of Dordrecht in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland, is large enough to be split into three parts, Sterrenburg I, II and III.
