What are the main landmarks in Våland?

Several parish churches mark the district and its edges. Varden kirke and Bekkefaret kirke stand among the houses of southern Stavanger, with Hillevåg kirke close by on the boundary toward the next district. Sport has its corners too.

Hetlandshallen and the open-air Stavanger Svømmestadion Gamlingen draw the neighbourhood, and the Bekkefaret skateanlegg gives Våland a board park of its own.

What is the history of Våland?

Stavanger spread south as it grew, filling the slopes above its old harbour. Våland came up among these southern quarters, settled over the years as the Vestlandet port pushed outward toward Hillevåg and the districts beyond. Houses climbed the hill.

They left room for the churches and halls that would gather the neighbourhood later on.

Where is Våland?

It lies just south of the city core. Våland occupies the rising ground of southern Stavanger, part of the western Norwegian coast of Vestlandet, with the neighbouring districts of Stokka to the west and Hillevåg and Hinna stretching further south along the same side of the city.
