Chachapoyas keeps its rooms inside one small grid. Two other churches pull the other way.
Santa Ana Church, Amazonas and Señor de Burgos Church, Amazonas sit off that block, and their streets settle earlier once the day's traffic thins out. Light sleepers should take the hint. A room by either church trades the short walk to the cathedral for a quieter night.
Departure decides the rest of it. Chachapoyas Airport takes the domestic flights, and a bed on that side of the city earns its keep for anyone with a morning departure rather than a long haul by road. Buses do the harder version.
Chiclayo and Cajamarca are the two cities the coaches run to, and the climb in either direction eats enough of a day that a first night near the arrival point beats hauling luggage across town. Yalape asks for a morning of its own. It is the one name on this city's landmark list that no church tour picks up, and anyone building a day around it wants a base that lets the start be early rather than convenient.

No founding year is on the record for Chachapoyas. What the city holds instead is a run of names, and they fall into two groups that share nothing: the Spanish dedications the church brought, and Yalape. Three titles come from Catholic devotion.
St. John the Baptist Cathedral, Chachapoyas, Santa Ana Church, Amazonas and Señor de Burgos Church, Amazonas were all named the way a colonial parish named things, which dates the built centre more surely than any charter would. Yalape sits outside that vocabulary. Its name belongs to no saint and to no Spanish word, and it survives on the same landmark list as the three churches without belonging to their tradition.
