Where to stay in Quiapo
Where the beds are, and what that means for the visit.
Quiapo is central, and that is what a room here buys. The district holds the old downtown of Manila, and a room here puts Quiapo Church, the historic streets, and the ancestral houses of Hidalgo Street within a walk rather than a ride across the National Capital Region. The basilica draws crowds.
Anyone who wants heritage without the press of devotees should look toward Hidalgo Street, where the surviving houses stand a little back from the flow.

About Quiapo
What are the main landmarks in Quiapo?
Quiapo Church anchors everything. The minor basilica enshrines the Black Nazarene image carried through the district each January, and no other site in the old downtown competes with it for attention. Heritage houses fill the rest.
Hidalgo Street carries the ancestral rows, the Legarda Ancestral House and the Jusay Ancestral House stand among the survivors, and the Third Order of the Franciscans Church, Knox United Methodist Church, and the Gomburza Monument fill in the streets between.
What is the history of Quiapo?
The name comes from a plant. Kiapo, a floating plant that grew thickly around the area, gave Quiapo its name long before it became the old downtown of Manila. Loss shaped the rest.
World War II destroyed many of the historic sites, later demolitions took more, and what survives stands beside informal housing and corporate building on the same historic streets. Heritage organisations, experts, and lawmakers have pushed to rebuild what Quiapo lost and to make its streets walkable again.
Where is Quiapo?
