Stay here to reach the museums and the churches on foot. Uphill, the streets that run toward Przemyśl Castle offer quieter beds and long views across the old town's rooftops. Pick this side if you want calm and the walk up to the fortress.

The city passed through many hands, and its churches record that mixed past. The Cathedral of Przemyśl and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist served different rites, the New Synagogue served its Jewish community, and the Narodnij Dim stood for the local Ruthenian population. Przemyśl was for a long time the capital of its own voivodeship.
It gave up that role. In 1999 the city became part of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, close to the Ukrainian border, and it has kept the layered skyline those centuries left behind.
