The two halves of the district were once known as Fratelia A and Fratelia B.

Two churches carry the whole of Fratelia's listed heritage: the Biserica din Fratelia and the Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului din Fratelia, both recorded under the district's own name. Fratelia files no third entry. Museums and monuments belong to the centre of Timişoara, and a walk through Fratelia turns instead on the streets between Calea Șagului and Calea Martirilor.
What is the history of Fratelia?
The district answered to the name Chișoda Nouă until 1925, when it became Fratelia. The name stuck. For a long stretch afterwards it was treated as two places rather than one, Fratelia A running towards Calea Șagului and Fratelia B towards Calea Martirilor, a split that has since faded from use.
Both churches carry the district's name in their titles.
