The Church of the Theotokos of Kazan marks the middle of it. Kstovo covers only about 18 square kilometres, so the sleeping choice is not really a matter of distance within the town but of whether you want the district centre, the river settlements, or the estate ground at Зименки. Everything else is a short run.
Nizhny Novgorod lies 22 kilometres off and absorbs whatever the town itself cannot take. Veliky Vrag reads differently from the centre. Its own Church of the Theotokos of Kazan gives the settlement a fixed point away from the offices and shops of Kstovo, and a room out there trades convenience for the quieter side of the right bank. Зименки holds the manors.
The Усадьба Дадиани, Башкировых and the Дачный корпус Башкировых stand on that ground, and anyone whose reason for coming is the estate architecture of Kstovsky District should sleep near them rather than in the built-up part of the town. Practical advantages stay in the centre. The Усадьба Курбатова, Карповой and the lime park are both inside it, the district administration works from it, and the road to Nizhny Novgorod starts from it, which matters more than it sounds in a town this compact.
Beds are not plentiful anywhere. That is the real constraint on the whole of Kstovsky District, and it argues for booking the centre first and treating Veliky Vrag or Зименки as the deliberate choice rather than the fallback.

What is the history of Kstovo?
1301 is the marker. Kstovo carries that founding year, which puts a settlement on this stretch of the Volga right bank centuries before Kstovsky District existed as an administrative unit around it. Long before any of that, there was the Volga.
Estates, churches and the district office all attach themselves to that same bank. The manors belong to the landowning centuries. The Усадьба Курбатова, Карповой stands in Kstovo, the Усадьба Дадиани, Башкировых at Зименки, and the Дачный корпус Башкировых beside it, and the family names fixed to those buildings are the plainest surviving record of who held ground here.
A lime park went in at Kstovo. It survives as planting rather than masonry, and it belongs to the same estate inheritance as the houses that outlasted the families who built them. Two Kazan dedications came out of the same country parish tradition.
