What is the history of Frunzensky District?
This is where Vladivostok began. The naval post grew up around the Golden Horn, and its first street, Svetlanskaya Street, was laid parallel to the water where the port took shape. Frunzensky District was named in 1936 after the Red Army commander Mikhail Frunze, formalising the old core as one of the city's boroughs.
Its defences, the ramparts of the Vladivostok Fortress, still crown the ridges above the same harbour. The layout has held.
