Pervomaisky district was drawn as one of Vladivostok's boroughs in 1936. Cape Churkin came first. Named for a naval hydrographer who charted the Golden Horn Bay, the headland drew shipyards and naval berths long before it became an administrative district, and the Marine Cemetery already climbed its slopes.
Work came with the sea. Vostochnaya Verf grew along the shore, and much later the Golden Bridge tied the whole southern side back to the centre it had always faced across the water.
