What are the main landmarks in Sovetsky district?

The set pieces mostly lie south of here. Sovetsky district holds the northern heights, where scattered forts and batteries of the Vladivostok Fortress crown the hills above the residential blocks and look back over the peninsula. The showpiece collections belong to the old town instead.

Down the rail line, past Pervaya Rechka station, the Vladimir K. Arseniev Museum of Far East History and the Soviet submarine S-56 anchor the historic waterfront that this northern quarter feeds into.

The borough is a Soviet-era creation. Vladivostok drew its administrative map afresh in 1972, and the northern reaches of the port were gathered into Sovetsky district as the city climbed its hills with prefabricated apartment blocks. Growth followed the railway.

Pervaya Rechka station had already pulled settlement north from the old harbour, and the new quarter filled the slopes above the tracks with housing for a swelling Pacific port.
