Novaya Derevnya, Saint Petersburg — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Novaya Derevnya is a district of Saint Petersburg by Kamenny Island, an old dacha quarter around the Ushakovsky bridge and its parks.

About Novaya Derevnya

Where to stay in Novaya Derevnya

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Novaya Derevnya suits travellers who want the leafy islands of Saint Petersburg rather than the museum crowds. The district keeps its dacha-era calm around the Tikhiy Otdyh park and the mansions of the old right bank, with the Ushakovsky bridge crossing to Kamenny Island in minutes. Green outlasts grandeur here.

If you would rather wake near parkland and the Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist than in the packed historic core, this riverside quarter offers a quieter base within easy reach of the centre.

About Novaya Derevnya

What are the main landmarks in Novaya Derevnya?

Novaya Derevnya carries a dense layer of pre-revolutionary heritage. The Kamenny Island Palace stands across the water, reached by the Ushakovsky bridge and the 3rd Kamennoostrovsky Bridge, while the Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist and the Saint Seraphim of Sarov church anchor the quarter. Dachas and mansions survive.

The Dacha Saltykovyh, Mikhin's mansion and the Lemmerich mansion line the old streets, and the Tikhiy Otdyh park, the Ananieva Almshouse and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy building fill out the district.

What is the history of Novaya Derevnya?

Novaya Derevnya began as a dacha settlement on the right bank of Saint Petersburg, its name marking a newer village beyond the old city. Wealthy families built summer houses here, from the Dacha Saltykovyh to the mansions of the right bank, and charitable foundations opened the Ananieva Almshouse and the Mariinsky Almshouse for disabled children. Progress arrived in concrete.

The 1908 International Exhibition left reinforced-concrete works that still stand, and the Novoderevenskaya people school served the growing quarter. Villas gave way to streets.

Where is Novaya Derevnya?

Novaya Derevnya lies on the right bank of Saint Petersburg facing Kamenny Island, linked to it by the Ushakovsky bridge and the 3rd Kamennoostrovsky Bridge.
