Tarkhovka, Saint Petersburg — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Wooden dachas cluster by the water at Tarkhovka, a district of Saint Petersburg beside the Sestroretsky Razliv near Sestroretsk and Avenarius Manor.

About Tarkhovka

Where to stay in Tarkhovka

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Tarkhovka suits travellers who want a quiet dacha shore rather than the palaces of central Saint Petersburg. Rooms are scarce along Tarkhovka's dacha shore. The district sits by the Sestroretsky Razliv and the neighbouring town of Sestroretsk, where Avenarius Manor and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church stand among old summer houses.

If you would rather wake beside water and wooden dachas than in the tourist core, this corner near Sestroretsk trades nightlife for waterside walks and the calm of an old dacha settlement.

About Tarkhovka

What are the main landmarks in Tarkhovka?

Tarkhovka's landmarks are mostly timber summer houses. Avenarius Manor anchors the district, and nearby stand the Gerbikh Dacha and the Pavlovskaya Dacha, wooden villas that recall the settlement's dacha era beside the Sestroretsky Razliv. In neighbouring Sestroretsk rise the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church, the Chubanov house, and a shop building on Krasnyh Komandirov Prospekt.

A memorial honours the women's anti-aircraft battery. The archaeological site of Sestroretsky Razliv 8 records far older settlement by the water.

What is the history of Tarkhovka?

Human presence by the Sestroretsky Razliv runs deep. The archaeological site known as Sestroretsky Razliv 8, also recorded as Tarkhovka, marks a settlement from long before the modern district, one of several early camps found along this shore. Tarkhovka took its lasting shape as a dacha settlement, when timber villas such as Avenarius Manor, the Gerbikh Dacha and the Pavlovskaya Dacha rose across the settlement.

War later reached the shore. A memorial to the women's anti-aircraft battery recalls those years, standing near the summer houses that survived them.

Where is Tarkhovka?

Tarkhovka lies on the Sestroretsky Razliv within Saint Petersburg, beside the neighbouring town of Sestroretsk and its shoreline dachas.
