SKhI, Voronezh — Area Guide & Where to Stay

SKhI is a district of Voronezh built around the Voronezh State Agrarian University, whose teaching blocks and arboretum date from 1910.

About SKhI

Where to stay in SKhI

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

This is a campus quarter. Rooms inside SKhI are scarce, because the ground belongs to the Voronezh State Agrarian University and its halls of residence rather than to hotels, so a bed usually means the Voronezh city centre and a ride out. The Arboretum of VSFTU rewards the trip.

Anyone coming for the university itself should take the morning, since the Главный корпус and the older blocks around it keep short hours.

About SKhI

What are the main landmarks in SKhI?

The university is the district. Voronezh State Agrarian University holds the Главный корпус at its centre, and around it stand the Профессорский корпус and the Директорский корпус that housed staff when the institute opened. Green space follows.

The Arboretum of VSFTU runs beside the teaching ground, the Памятник К. Д. Глинке honours the soil scientist the school looks back to, and the Museum of history of development of education in Voronezh Oblast keeps the paperwork.

What is the history of SKhI?

The founding date on record is 1910. An agricultural institute went up on open ground outside Voronezh and the district took its initials, so the Главный корпус, the student halls and the Здание электростанции that powered them all belong to one planned campus rather than to a village that grew into the city. Staff needed housing. Профессорский корпус and Директорский корпус went up for them, and the Больница and the Школа followed for the families who came too.

Where is SKhI?

SKhI stands on open ground at the edge of Voronezh, its teaching blocks and the Arboretum of VSFTU laid out together.
