Stora kyrkan anchors the district's skyline, its tower a fixed point for anyone crossing Odenslund. A short way off stands Östersunds gamla kyrka, the older church whose plain walls predate much of the surrounding city. Families head instead to Storsjöbadet.

What is the history of Odenslund?

Odenslund began in Brunflo parish. Building started in the late 1870s on the land of Änge farm, where the merchant Nils Wikström had set up a distillery in the 1840s and Inga Löwenadler later a brickworks, and the community took its name in 1887. Homes for distillery, brickworks and railway workers grew up around it on plots sold off with no plan and no streets of its own; Odenslund became a municipal community in 1899, got a town plan in 1911 and joined the town of Östersund in 1918.
