Flogsta grew as Uppsala expanded west. The district took shape as one of the outer quarters added beyond the old town, filling the south-western ground as the city spread outward from its cathedral core within Uppsala Municipality. Parish life followed the growth.
Eriksbergskyrkan and the nearby chapels of Sankt Ansgars kyrka and Sankt Olofs kapell came to serve these western neighbourhoods, far from the medieval heart that Gamla Uppsala and the cathedral had long anchored. A newer corner of an ancient city.
Where is Flogsta?
Flogsta lies in south-western Uppsala. The district occupies the western reaches of the city, set apart from the older core around the cathedral and castle yet bound firmly to Uppsala as one of its outlying quarters, and from here the built-up edge of the city gives way toward the surrounding country of Uppsala County. It belongs to Uppsala Municipality.
Eriksbergskyrkan rises on the neighbouring slopes to the east, marking the approach back toward the centre. West of town, away from the river city.
