The harbour decides everything here. Rooms in Bosaso cluster near the quays and the offices that serve them, because the reason most people arrive is cargo crossing the Gulf of Aden rather than anything waiting on shore. Puntland sends its business this way.
Anyone here for the commercial centre of the region will want the port side, where the district offices and the road inland meet within a short distance of the water. The Bosaso District runs from those same streets. Bari has few alternatives.
The province channels its trade through this one town, so a choice of beds is a commercial choice rather than a scenic one, and expectations set by a resort coast simply do not apply on this stretch of the Gulf of Aden. Bender Qassim was never a resort. A stay works best planned around the port, the district administration and whatever business brought the visit, with the water itself as the one view the town reliably offers.

What is the history of Bosaso?
The town dates to about 1400. Bosaso carried the name Bender Qassim for much of that span, and the harbour it grew around faced the same water and the same trading partners then as it does under the newer name. The name changed later.
Traffic between the Bari coast, the Arabian Peninsula and the ports of East Africa gave the settlement its purpose, and it lived off what moved across the Gulf of Aden rather than off the ground behind the shore. Administration arrived with Puntland. Bosaso serves as the administrative capital of the Bosaso District and as the principal commercial centre of the Puntland regional state, which puts the paperwork of a district and the business of a whole region into the same coastal streets.
Somalia counts it among the major ports. Cargo moving between the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and markets beyond crosses these quays, so the old Bender Qassim trade and the current one are the same trade under different management. The water did not change.
What changed was the authority ashore, and the harbour kept working through each version of it.
Where is Bosaso?
The Gulf of Aden sets the frame. Bosaso stands on its southern coast in the northeastern Bari province of Somalia, with roughly 12 square kilometres of built ground pressed between the water and the interior of Puntland behind it. The harbour faces open sea.
