Banqiao, New Taipei City — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Banqiao is the seat of New Taipei City, a closely built district best known for the Lin Family Mansion and Garden.

About Banqiao

Where to stay in Banqiao

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

The Lin Family Mansion and Garden decides most of it. A bed within reach of the garden walls gives a district otherwise built around administration something worth walking to after work, and the Taiwan Toy Museum falls inside the same easy round. Business fills the remainder.

Banqiao runs the affairs of New Taipei City, so rooms here lean to the practical, and the district suits travellers who would rather be close to the offices than to a view.

About Banqiao

What are the main landmarks in Banqiao?

Eight names make the list. The Lin Family Mansion and Garden is the one people cross a city for, and Daguan Academy carries the older learning of the district alongside the stele 枋橋建學碑. Sport takes two entries.

The Xinzhuang Civil Sports Center and the Xinzhuang Gymnasium share the register with the Taiwan Toy Museum, the Huang Gueili Memorial Hall and 樹林基督長老教會.

What is the history of Banqiao?

The present arrangement dates to 2010. Banqiao had been an incorporated city and the seat of Taipei County before New Taipei City was constituted, and the change left much the same offices doing much the same work under a new name. Older spellings survive.

The record carries Panchiao, Banciao and Pan-ch'iao, while the Lin Family Mansion and Garden and Daguan Academy stand for the town that was here long before any of those titles.

Where is Banqiao?

Banqiao is the administrative core of New Taipei City, packed close, with the walled grounds of the Lin Family Mansion and Garden breaking the pattern.
