Stay in Xizhi for the trains. The West Coast Line stops at Wudu, Xizhi, and Xike on its way between Taipei and Keelung, and National Highways 1 and 3 both cross the district. Glass towers of electronics firms, Acer and Garmin (Asia) among them, earned it the nickname of New Taipei's Manhattan.
Farglory U-Town, finished at the end of 2014, rises 37 storeys over a food court, a department store, and a fitness centre, with Carrefour and Costco nearby.

What are the main landmarks in Xizhi?
Xizhi Old Street, Zhongzheng Road, was the district's first commercial street. The Jide Temple, a Mazu temple, stands where people once took the boats to Taipei, and the Xizhi Gongbei Temple, the Cihang Memorial, and the Tomb of Du Yuesheng are among its sights. The Xizhi Baiyun Police Station is a listed building.
In spring more than a hundred cherry trees flower along Kangkao Creek, lit at night. Trails climb Dajianshan, and Wuzhi Shan reaches 699 metres.
What is the history of Xizhi?
The Ketagalan village of Kippanas stood here when the Dutch East India Company drove the Spanish from northern Taiwan in 1641 and 1642. Han settlers built a hamlet in 1758. By 1765 it had a street of shops, the present Zhongzheng Road, and boats carried the hill farms' tea down the Keelung River to Dadaocheng.
Its old name, Tsui-tng-ka, means 'water returning site', because the river's tide turned here, and in 1920 the Japanese renamed it Shiodome, 'end of tides'. Xizhi became a district of New Taipei City on 25 December 2010.
Where is Xizhi?
Xizhi lies in north-eastern New Taipei City. Dakeng Creek, the Keelung River, and Neigou Creek part it from Taipei City to the west, and hills from Keelung City to the east. Only a narrow plain follows the river.
The rest is hillside, with the Wuzhi range to the north-west and the Dajianshan hills to the south, and the climate is wet all year.
