About Nantun
What are the main landmarks in Nantun?
Three names hold the register. Taichung Wanhe Temple, Ruicheng Hall and the Macipu Historical Site are what Nantun keeps from before the redevelopment, three entries that survive in a district otherwise given over to commerce. The 7th redevelopment zone holds the department stores and office towers.
A visitor to Nantun therefore walks between a temple and a shopping floor without leaving the district.
What is the history of Nantun?
Nantun belonged to Taichung before the amalgamation of 2010, when the city and the surrounding county were joined into one municipality and the district kept its place inside it. That 2010 date is the only one. Taichung Wanhe Temple and Ruicheng Hall predate the towers around them.
The Macipu Historical Site is the one entry on Nantun's list that the record marks as historical in its own name. Everything else on this ground in Taiwan belongs to the redevelopment zone.
