What is Samar known for?

The Church of the Holy Trinity draws most of the attention, and its bell tower stands as a separate structure beside it, so the pair reads as one ensemble across the middle of the city. The older name was Novomoskovsk. It held until 2024, and the Самарівський міський історико-краєзнавчий музей імені Петра Калнишевського carries the record of both names and of the streets around them.

What are the main landmarks in Samar?

The Church of the Holy Trinity is the fixed point, with the bell tower of Holy Trinity church standing separately alongside it. Каплиця святого Войтеха sits apart from it. A monument to Soviet partisans stands in the city, and mass graves of Soviet soldiers lie at Voronivske cemetery, at Kulebivka, and on Povstanskyi Lane, with a grave of an unknown soldier among them.

The Вічна слава memorial gathers several of those threads. Industry wrote its own commemoration, and a memorial sign records the first and the millionth large-diameter pipe turned out by the works, while another remembers the plant's workers who died at the front. A monument to the 195th aviation division stands apart.

The Soviet period also left a Vladimir Lenin monument and a ward of mid-twentieth-century buildings that is listed in its own right. Novomoskovsk held the city's name until 2024. Samar now serves as the administrative centre of Samar Raion in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a short distance from Dnipro.

Roads approaching from the far bank have to reach the right bank where the city actually stands, which is why arriving drivers end up on the same few streets around Heroiv Square.
