The district's gravest site is a memorial. Меморіал закатованим у Дарницькому концтаборі marks the ground of Stalag 339, the wartime camp where tens of thousands of Soviet prisoners died under German occupation. Beyond it, the built landmarks are civic rather than grand: the Darnytsia railway station on the eastern approach, the tall aviation-themed hall of Boryspilska on the metro, and the pine massifs that give Osokorky and Pozniaky their green edges. The Boryspil Highway threads it all toward the airport.

What is the history of Darnytskyi District?

Kyiv drew its left-bank sands into the city, and in 1935 the raion was formally carved out around the old settlement of Darnytsia. War scarred it soon after. During the German occupation Stalag 339 held Soviet prisoners on ground now marked by Меморіал закатованим у Дарницькому концтаборі, one of the darkest chapters of the left bank.

Later decades filled the sandy flats with the mass housing of Pozniaky and Kharkivskyi Masyv. The metro reached south to Chervonyi Khutir and turned marsh and pine into a lived-in quarter.
