Sviatoshynskyi District is a young raion. It was drawn in 2001 as one of the administrative divisions that partition Kyiv, formed on Right Bank ground west of the Dnieper long after the old city rose on the river bluffs. The name reaches much further back.
It honours the monk-prince Mykola Svyatosha by way of the historic Sviatoshyn locality that gave Святошинський район its identity within the capital of Ukraine.
