Alfalfa, cotton and dairy farms worked this ground from the 1880s onward, and housing and commercial development have been urbanizing those fields since. Parts of it never joined the city. Those parcels remain unincorporated in Maricopa County, while the rest was drawn inside the Phoenix city limits as Laveen Village, one of the urban villages the city is divided into.
