About Huning Highlands Historic District

Huning Highlands counts its landmarks house by house. Built mostly by Anglo-American and European newcomers, its houses follow the Queen Anne, Italianate and other Victorian styles of the East and Midwest rather than regional forms, and the listed ones include the Hudson House, the Henry Mann House, the Hilario Lopez House and the Delfina Gurule House. What is the history of Huning Highlands Historic District?
Albuquerque's first residential subdivision started here. Lots went up mostly between the 1880s and the 1920s, and the Victorian and early 20th-century houses raised in those years still give Huning Highlands its density of period frontages. Recognition followed much later.
The New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties took the district in 1976, and the National Register of Historic Places added it in 1978.
