About Cobbs Creek
What are the main landmarks in Cobbs Creek?
Holmes Junior High School and the Walnut Park Plaza Hotel are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Blanche A. Nixon/Cobbs Creek Branch of the Free Library, opened in 1925, stands on Cobbs Creek Parkway at 59th Street and Baltimore Avenue. It took an area activist's name in 1990.
What is the history of Cobbs Creek?
In 1985 fires from the bombing of the MOVE headquarters at 6221 Osage Avenue spread to 64 other buildings in the neighbourhood. The city rebuilt the destroyed homes in haste. After years of failed repairs to the poor construction, they were condemned.
In 1998 the Cobbs Creek Automobile Suburb Historic District was created, bounded by Cobbs Creek Parkway, Spruce Street, 52nd Street and Angora Street, to protect the buildings inside it.
