Veradale is residential ground with no hotel on its own streets, so the nearest beds stand a few minutes north along Sullivan Road. That cluster gathers where Sullivan Road meets Interstate 90, by the freeway ramps and Spokane Valley's newer shopping, and the drive south to any Veradale address is short. Spokane lies ten miles west. If you are visiting family, working a job on these streets, or in town for a school event, the Sullivan Road hotels are the practical base and Veradale supplies the quiet.

What are the main landmarks in Veradale?
Veradale's landmarks are working ones: a post office on Sprague Avenue and the utility that gave the district its name. Veradale Post Office is why the name still appears on envelopes, and it stands on Sprague Avenue, the long commercial street that runs the length of the valley. Vera Water and Power has supplied Veradale since 1908, drawing on the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer through eight wells, and the stone pump house over the first of them, built from rock dug out of the irrigation ditches, stands nearby on Evergreen Road.
No museum, no square. What a walk here turns up is orchard land turned into house lots.
What is the history of Veradale?
Veradale began in 1911 as Vera, an orchard tract on irrigated land, named for Vera McDonald, whose father opened it. The dale ending followed once another Washington town turned out to carry the name already. Water came first.
The Vera Electric Water Company was formed in 1908, sank a well by hand, and sold forty-acre parcels to apple growers, and an electric interurban line ran west into Spokane. Orchards gave way to house lots as the valley filled in, and the census counted Veradale separately until Spokane Valley incorporated in 2003 and took it in.

Veradale takes up about three square miles of the Spokane Valley floor, with Opportunity to the west, Greenacres to the east, and Interstate 90 across the north.
