About Orange Farm
What are the main landmarks in Orange Farm?
Orange Farm has a two-floor shopping centre, the Eyethu Orange Farm Mall. Mountain Road Park, opened on 12 October 2014 in Orange Farm Ext 2, lies 1 km from the mall on the old Ext 2 football ground, the Liver Pool Grounds. A large multi-purpose community centre and the Stretford Clinic, the township's main clinic, also stand in the township.
What is the history of Orange Farm?
Orange Farm dates from 1988. Laid-off farm workers were its first settlers, and support for them came slowly, mostly from people who had been tenants in the larger township of Soweto. The name has Dutch origins and is a misnomer, since oranges are grown in orchards rather than on farms.
Where is Orange Farm?
Orange Farm is the southernmost township of the City of Johannesburg in Gauteng, and its climate is classed as subtropical highland under the Köppen-Geiger system.
