As Buddhism faded from Bengal, the ridge sank under grass and forest, and its temples lay lost for centuries until diggers uncovered them again.
The town grew on the plain. Comilla rose as a market and district town of the fertile delta, famous across the land for its sweets and its cloth. The old ruins still line the ridge.
