Base yourself west, toward Uttara. The formal hotels and serviced flats cluster in the numbered sectors of Uttara next door, so most visitors sleep there and reach Uttarkhan by rickshaw across the connecting roads. Uttarkhan itself keeps guesthouses and family rooms among its lanes, quieter and cheaper than the sector core, drawing travellers who want a residential base near the airport without the traffic of the main township.
The stretch toward Dakshinkhan runs busiest around the bazaar. Along the Turag River the plots thin out.

The bazaar is the anchor. Uttarkhan grew as a union of villages, so its markers are neighbourhood ones rather than monuments: the local mosque and madrasa beside the bazaar, the union council ground, and the connecting roads that stitch it to Uttara and to Dakshinkhan to the south. Ponds and old homesteads still break up the blocks.
Toward the west the land drops to the Turag River, where brickfields and open plots edge the built-up lanes and mark the boundary of Dhaka's spreading northern fringe.
What is the history of Uttarkhan?
This was farmland first. Uttarkhan long stood as a rural union of villages, paired with neighbouring Dakshinkhan on the northern edge of Dhaka, its ponds and fields worked well outside the old city. The city caught up with it.
As Uttara rose on the drawing board and the numbered sectors filled toward the airport, Uttarkhan was pulled into the metropolitan area of Dhaka, its lanes densifying and its farmland giving way to homesteads and housing plots while the Turag River still held the western line.

Uttarkhan sits on flat, pond-dotted land in the far north of Dhaka, east of the Uttara sectors and bounded to the west by the Turag River, with Dakshinkhan adjoining it to the south.
