What is Haskovo known for?

The province takes its name from the city of Haskovo, its administrative and industrial centre, and the surrounding countryside carries ancient Thracian tombs alongside the springs that rise near them. Dimitrovgrad sits close by, a model city of the communist era built from scratch in the 1950s and still legible as a single planned scheme.

Where is Haskovo?

The Upper Thracian Plain sets the terms. Haskovo Province takes in the stretch of Thracian valley that the Maritsa crosses, and the river fixes the grade of the land, the run of its soils, and the line along which towns and roads have gathered. Fields run wide between them.
