About Mattenbach (Kreis 7)
What are the main landmarks in Mattenbach (Kreis 7)?
Villa Flora, home of the Hahnloser art collection, lies in the district, as do the Fotomuseum Winterthur and the Swiss Foundation for Photography. Two churches stand on the Unterer Deutweg: the Catholic Herz-Jesu of 1934 and the Reformed Zwinglikirche of 1940. The Axa-Arena opened in 2018.
It stands beside the Eishalle Deutweg, and Geiselweid is the only public indoor pool in the city.
What is the history of Mattenbach (Kreis 7)?
The area was long farmland, with a few farms and mills along the Eulach. Houses followed the Tösstalstrasse, built from 1834, and the Schleife dye works grew quickly from 1845, before the first cooperative flats went up on the Mühlebachstrasse in 1888. After the stream was straightened in 1946, cooperative row houses filled the Mattenbach quarter.
The new district followed on 1 July 1973. Most of it came from the Stadt district.

Mattenbach lies between Stadt and Seen, parted from Seen by a green belt, and takes in the quarters of Endliker, Gutschick and Deutweg and part of the Eschenberg forest.
