What are the main landmarks in Zürich (Kreis 3) / Sihlfeld?
Sihlfeld's landmark is the Friedhof Sihlfeld, the largest green space in Zürich inside a densely built area. Where it reaches the Sihl, the quarter's border also takes in the Sihlhölzli and its sports ground, the Sportanlage Sihlhölzli, and in the west it takes in the whole of the Triemliplatz. At 453 m, that square is the highest point.
What is the history of Zürich (Kreis 3) / Sihlfeld?
Sihlfeld takes its name from the ground beneath. A broad, water-bearing gravel field was laid down here by the Sihl and by countless streams carrying stone from the Uetliberg, and it reaches north to the Limmat, well beyond the quarter. Until 1787 that lower Sihlfeld also belonged to Wiedikon, which lost it when Aussersihl split away.
The old field name lives on in the Sihlfeldstrasse, formerly the Schrägweg, which runs diagonally across the grid and on through Hard.

Sihlfeld is flat ground bounded by the left bank of the Sihl to the east and the Birmensdorferstrasse to the south, with Werd and Hard to the north.
