Štýřice, Brno — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Štýřice spreads southwest of the centre of Brno, and its ground carries the Central Cemetery with the memorials set among the graves.

About Štýřice

Where to stay in Štýřice

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Štýřice puts its visitors near the Central Cemetery rather than near the old streets of Brno. Quiet ground, and a lot of it. Guests who come for the pylon at the Central Cemetery in Brno and the war graves around it can take a room in the district, though most people booking Brno end up in Brno-střed proper and travel the short distance southwest.

About Štýřice

What are the main landmarks in Štýřice?

One cemetery accounts for nearly the whole list. The Central Cemetery in Brno holds the pylon at the Central Cemetery in Brno, the obydlí správce na Ústředním hřbitově v Brně and, on its honour burial ground, Pomník rumunským vojákům na čestném pohřebišti na Ústředním hřbitově v Brně. Others mark the resistance.

Pomník účastníkům třetího odboje u krematoria v Brně sits by the crematorium, and sloup se sochou vojína Rudé armády rises over the Soviet plot.

What is the history of Štýřice?

Štýřice joined Brno in 1850. The cadastral outline as it stands dates from 1969, and since November 1990 the whole of it has belonged to Brno-střed, the central of the city districts. War left its marks here.

The honour plots on the Central Cemetery gathered graves of legionaries, of foreign armies and of resistance members executed in Breslau in January 1945, so the district's past is read as much from headstones as from street plans.

Where is Štýřice?

Štýřice covers 3.33 square kilometres southwest of the centre of Brno, all of it inside the city district of Brno-střed.
