What are the main landmarks in Surheide?
The Lutheran Auferstehungskirche Surheide on the Carsten-Lücken-Straße was built in 1968 by Karl Franzius and his son Jan Niklas Franzius. Its free-standing bell tower carries a very pointed spire. In the south lies the Düllhamm, a nature reserve of 4.3 hectares bounded by the railway to Buxtehude, and the TuSpo Surheide, founded in 1952, has its ground at Wulsbergen.
What is the history of Surheide?
On 19 December 1937 the foundation stone was laid on the Vieländer Weg for the first 175 houses of the Otto-Telschow-Stadt, named after a Nazi Gauleiter. Its settlers were shipyard and fishing-port workers and seamen. In 1945 the settlement took the name Surheide, and streets named after Nazis were renamed.
Its best years came in the 1950s and 1960s. It became a Stadtteil in 1971.

Surheide borders Wulsdorf and Geestemünde to the west, Schiffdorferdamm to the north, and Schiffdorf and Loxstedt in Lower Saxony to the east and south.
